1. No one can choose when, where, and which kind of family to be born into, nor select his/her parents. No one can decide when to die (I did not count suicide). However, we can choose how to live our life, we can choose to be happy and positive.
2. Complaining will not fix anything nor change the environment; the only thing that we can do is to find a way to change our environment or change ourselves. The latter is always easier.
3. Age is just a number. Do not care about what other people think about you, but care about what you have learned and what experience you have gained over the years.
4. A good leader should know “Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.” Most people do not like leaders telling them how to do things.
5. Have you heard that the easy way to test a software is to use it on an 8G RAM(or less) computer and see how it behaves. I still keep an 8G RAM Windows 11 computer. I also notice key board shortcuts (or DOS commands) are working better when the free memory is low on that computer.
6. “The only way to win World War III is to prevent it.” The same idea can be applied on almost everything. Instead of solving the trouble, we should prevent it from happening.
7. “In preparing for battle, I have always found that plans are useless but planning is indispensable.” and “Plans cannot keep up with changes.”
8. Have you heard of “Operations research(OR)” Operations research - Wikipedia Objective: the maximum (of profit, performance, or yield) or minimum (of loss, risk, or cost). Some may even try low-cost, but to gain maximum profit/performance. I always encourage young engineers to learn it, no matter it will be used in their career or not.
9. It may be a good idea to move, only at that moment you would decide what you need to throw away and what you need to keep. Actually, if you always throw/give away un-used things then maybe you do not need to make that move.
10. I am learning cooking now. For a person not allowed to enter the kitchen it is not easy. For me, it is not that hard, just found the recipe online and follow the steps. It is never pretty for a beginner but who cares since I do not plan to sell it. The idea was I think all the cooks can always write their own recipe, which is similar to a software engineer can write their own algorithm to solve problems.
